The Need for a Digital Transition Programme for the AEC in Greece and Cyprus

Around the world, Building Information Modelling, BIM has been acknowledged as the new paradigm in the AEC industry, revolutionizing the way projects are designed, constructed, and managed. Successful implementation in various countries underscores the positive impact of BIM, ranging from enhanced collaboration to significant improvements in project efficiency.

Despite the global trend, the adoption of BIM in Greece and Cyprus is still in its early stages. While some projects and organizations may have embraced BIM principles, a comprehensive and standardized approach is lacking. Regulatory hurdles and a general lack of awareness contribute to the slower pace of adoption within the public and private sectors.

Greece, with its rich history and culture, architectural heritage, stunning landscapes and warm climate stands at a crucial juncture in its AEC industry. The sector struggles with challenges such as fragmented communication, inefficient workflows, and project delays. These issues hinder the industry's ability to keep pace with global advancements and best practices. Cyprus, the Mediterranean country island with a rich culture and strategic location has a large construction sector that serves as the engine of the local economy; still, the adoption of BIM is very low.

To address the current gaps in BIM adoption, there is a need for a Digital transition program tailored to the Greek and Cyprus AEC sectors. Such a program could enhance digital construction awareness in AEC professionals, fostering a culture of innovation and at the same time sparking a discussion on digital transformation's impact and implications.
